In 2019, a group of dedicated high school students at Saratoga High School (SHS) — located in the California Silicon Valley — founded a student-led club called Aspiring to Create English (ACE).

Our organization's goal is to provide opportunities for students in need to enhance their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Over the school year, we connect tutors from SHS with students outside of the United States to improve their English while educating them about American culture and lifestyle. In the summer of 2020, we expanded worldwide with English panels over Zoom to discuss topics, such as culture, mental health, and environmental awareness, that are prevalent not only in the U.S., but all over the world.

The idea of the club originated from founder Anthony Qin's personal experiences in Yunnan, a rural province in China, where he taught underprivileged students English over a 10-day period. He witnessed first-hand the background of poverty the students came from and education's role in helping them succeed. Upon returning home, he established ACE in hopes of aiding students like those in Yunnan who need experienced English tutors to help them learn the universal language.

Hi! I'm Willis, former outreach officer, co-founder of the Pen Pal branch (with Anais), content creator, and translator for French, simplified Chinese, and traditional Chinese. I love helping others learn English, and I’ve been working with an ESL student from Taiwan through Beyond Horizon since my freshman year. During our weekly tutoring sessions, I would present slides on American culture, edit their English essays, and often just chat about our lives. Last year, I expanded our tutee-student pairs by 70%, created 40+ original English lessons, and produced 50+ videos and audiobooks with over 1.5K views and 80 subscribers across YouTube and Bilibili. As president, I communicate with schools abroad, lead lunch meetings, oversee events, sign off volunteer hours, and more. When I’m not busy with all that, I like playing badminton, taking photos, building robots, and listening to Taylor Swift. If you have any questions, feel free to message me on Discord (tzuwei.chung) or via email (

Hello, I’m Grace, a junior at SHS and ACE’s vice president. Last year, I served as the outreach officer for ACE and created designs on our social media, as well as introducing new Chinese students to our organization. As vice president, I will be assisting the president in any tasks, including planning meetings, managing student-tutor pairs, creating varied club activities, and facilitating communication with members. I am also ACE’s translator for Chinese and Spanish. For the past two years, I have been meeting with a Japanese student weekly, where we review grammar topics, engage in cultural discussion, and read English books together. Outside of ACE, I enjoy dance, volleyball, art, movies, and learning about the world! If you have any questions about the club, feel free to contact me through my Facebook or through my email

Arthur Wang

Hi! I'm currently an 11th grader at Saratoga High School, and am a pen pal since October 2023. I have also tutored a student from China from September 2022-July 2023. With my pen pal, we primarily converse about cultural and education system differences, taking upon a more casual and friendly relationship. Aside from tutoring, I love reading both English and Chinese fiction books, doing art, and am bilingual.

Hello! I’m Arthur, and I am a junior at Saratoga High, and I am the treasurer for ACE. I joined ACE during my freshman year, and I have been tutoring a student that transferred from Taiwan to our school for the past year as well as a student in China. As treasurer, I'm excited to arrange events and fundraisers to spread our enthusiasm for learning and help ACE grow and reach a wider audience.

Izna Khanna

Hello! I’m Izna, and I am currently a junior attending SHS and this year’s outreach officer for ACE. I joined ACE in my sophomore year to help those interested in learning English; because of the language’s popularity, being in the top three spoken languages in the world, I felt inspired to be a part of a team that taught others something this crucial which could potentially unlock various opportunities in their future. As the 2024/25 outreach officer, I plan to expand ACE internationally into a larger organization that can be easily utilized by anyone looking to develop their English or wanting to become a tutor like I had previously. Furthermore, I aim to achieve certain goals like starting an international chapter in Africa and generating more tutors from nearby schools in the Bay Area. Outside of ACE, I enjoy designing, listening to music, making friends, and vlogging.

Jessica Li

i! I’m Jessica, a junior at SHS and a current outreach officer for ACE. I joined ACE in my freshman year (the first club I joined!) because I was interested in the prospect of working with students 1-on-1 to not only enhance their English abilities, but also connect with other cultures around the world. As outreach officer, I’m primarily responsible for pairing international students with tutors, pen pals, and English buddies, as well as recruiting tutees, and expanding ACE’s role locally (in the Bay Area) and globally (in more countries). Outside of school, I compete in many styles of dance such as Chinese folkloric, contemporary, and ballet. I’m looking forward to serving on ACE’s officer team this year, and feel free to contact me through email ( or Discord (arnieie), I’m always down to chat about anything!

Jane Lee

Hi! I’m Jane and I’m a current junior at Saratoga High, as well as your media head! I joined ACE during my freshman year to gain experience with tutoring students and teaching English. Outside of ACE, I’m also in my school’s color guard and I enjoy writing, painting, and going out for matcha with my friends! I’m looking forward to a great year with you all; you can contact me through either or
